I am reading a book now that was published in 2008, but that was not on my radar then. I am speaking of Alex and Brett Harris’ book called, Do Hard Things. My kids were grown, and I read the blurb about it and thought, “How nice!”…..but felt like it was addressed to teens, and so I could skip that one.
This summer, three of my grandkids are turning 13. For some reason it was introduced to me again, and I took the steps to get a copy and read it. Let me give you just two paragraphs from the book jacket:
“A growing movement of young people is rebelling against the low expectations of today’s culture by choosing to “do hard things” for the glory of God. And Alex and Brett Harris are leading the charge.
“Do Hard Things is the Harris twins’ revolutionary message in its purest and most compelling form, giving readers a tangible glimpse of what is possible for teens who actively resist cultural lies that limit their potential.”
Alex and Brett, as they have said themselves, are not brilliant, genetically high-energy young men. They are ordinary young men whom God has, and is, using. This is an important book! This older woman finds herself muttering under her breath, “Do Hard Things!” This blog is actually one of those hard things. If it were not for Joanne Snowden’s excellent technical help, it would not be here, but even with her help, it has been intimidating to me.
It has also been a great blessing, as I realize once again the truth of the Harris’ book….we NEED to continue to push our boundaries, and to seek fresh ways to challenge ourselves and others to live godly and fruitful lives, for God’s glory and praise!
